Which god? God or god?
“Thou shalt have no other god before me.” (Exodus 20:3 KJV)
July 24, 2010
I was at a worship concert this evening -
Does that make it a truth -
"And then she understood the devilish cunning of the enemies' plan.By mixing a little truth with it they had made their lie far stronger."
A lie with no basis in truth at all takes a whole lot more effort to put together and get a lot of people to accept it.
Unfortunately, unless people really know and understand the truth -
Reminds me of when I was a kid -
They assume that parallel universes exist, because nothing else (in their opinion) can explain why their equations of how things work -
This particular article starts off with "Everything you're about to read here seems impossible and insane, beyond science fiction. Yet it's all true".
It could be more than just creation though. Ever wonder what happened to the Garden of Eden? I have. Especially since it's supposedly somewhere out in the deserts of the middle east. How could there possibly be a Garden of Eden out there that no one has found?
What if it's in a parallel universe?
And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Let's start with the creation thing. The same article on parallel universes says -
It all started when superstring theory, hyperspace and dark matter made physicists realize that the three dimensions we thought described the Universe weren't enough. There are actually 11 dimensions. By the time they had finished they'd come to the conclusion that our Universe is just one bubble among an infinite number of membranous bubbles which ripple as they wobble through the eleventh dimension.
Now imagine what might happen if two such bubble universes touched. Neil Turok from Cambridge, Burt Ovrut from the University of Pennsylvania and Paul Steinhardt from Princeton believe that has happened. The result? A very big bang indeed and a new universe was born -
OMG! Do you realize what they just said?
It may well be that the Big Bang wasn't really the beginning of everything after all.
It's likely not a coincidence, but a couple days ago, I was showing my wife a different Bible translation from what we usually read for the following:
1 In the beginning existed the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him, and without him was not one single thing made that was made.
It's from Wesleys New Testament -
So God & Jesus existed before anything else.
I think I've heard that before too. Like maybe in Genesis, where God created the universe.
There's that pesky creation thing again.
But wait -
Of course this extraordinary story about the origin of our Universe has one alarming implication. If a collision started our Universe, could it happen again? Anything is possible in this extra-
OMG again! That sounds incredibly familiar too!
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
The first Heaven -
The Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth. Truth -
But wait -
By now, I hope that if you're a believer in the big bang theory of creation -
I promised there would be more. Remember the earlier question about the Garden of Eden -
Is it because it never existed -
Scientists now believe there may really be a parallel universe -
OMG yet again!!
A parallel universe that's less than one millimeter away from us. And we can't see it! We could be standing right in the middle of it and not even know. And isn't that what the Bible says? It doesn't say that God destroyed the Garden of Eden -
Just how many Biblical Truths is this one parallel universe thing going to answer?
Ever wonder where your eternal soul is? How can an eternal soul be housed in these so un-
Is God really with us, like He promised in John 14:15-
“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”
Think about the implications of this. It's staggering.
Some Christians just believe -
Others, like Thomas did after Jesus rose from the dead, want proof.
Science may very well have the proof. But they don't understand what it means.
And Christians so often distrust science (as I did) because we think it’s contrary to what we believe.
But again -
It's not the scientist. It's not like any scientist alive today is going to take credit for creating the universe.
It's certainly not the Christian -
Who then? Who mixes the Truth with the lie and comes up with the believable half truth / half lie? C. S. Lewis says it's the enemy -
Instead of being afraid of science -
If these two could get together -
Obviously, it changed. It got much bigger -
But I guess that's part of being open to what God wants.
And if you've read this far, and you're not a Christian -
Go for it.
